In my Scarlet Witch post, I challenged you guys to guess who my chosen six super heroines were going to be. You all guessed Storm, which makes a lot of sense since she’s like, my ALL TIME FAVE Marvel Comics character – EVER!!! LOL!!!
So here she is, the Queen of Wakanda herself – the only true and decent leader the X-Men ever had!! This rendition of Storm may be something of a surprise for a lot of you that know me, mostly because it’s not of her in her classic uniform. The truth is that I have drawn her in her classic duds so often that I thought it would be nice to show her in something different.
Ah well – so the white outfit won out and in the end I am quite pleased it did. You’ll also notice I had originally drawn her with a little storm cloud above her hand, but it kinda clashed with the rest of the illustration – so I dropped it!

Patrick I was so hoping to see the mohawk! It's all good though, I grew up on this suit with the animation. So it feels and looks REALLY nice!
By the way Boytooners this is Nick. Some may remember me lurking about here, I'm back and with my "more adult art" Nickname. So HEY MANNY, PHROQ, REIKRO AND ALL YOUR OTHERS. Especially Patrick.
And I HAVE been keeping up with Boytoons.
(Has anyone said Jean Grey?)
I'd have to say Emma Frost. :)
Hey Patrick & Shemmy!
NOW! Storm I know, I have always had a thing for dark women with white hair, not in a sexual way but in a way that the colors look so great together. They really give of a strong pernsonality and a "don't screw with me" attitude in women. As far as balck and whit on men, to me that doesn't work so well and they tend to remind me more of a set of pillow cases as apposed to anything else.
But one thing I love about Storm, is the ever changing costume. I really think this gives people something to look at and you never seem to know what she'll be wearing next. It really makes the whole viewing of her that bit more exciting. But I really love it when artists tweak around with any heroe's costumes for a certain line of comics, they tend to have these amazing add ons that just make you think "holy shit!" A really good example of some of these tweaks are Batman back in the 500 series, Superman in the Death & Rebirth of Superman series, Wonder Woman in the Amazons at War series. Also tweaking around with costumes in a movie series always looks really cool as well. I think the perfect example would have to be the Batman movies for this.
Hey Beebo, when I first saw your new nickname, I thought it said Boo Boo. I was going to ask you if you had sniffed out "picanick baskets."
Big Hugz!
Manny

beebo!!! =D =D =D
cool to have you back on board! =D
Patrick, this is amazing - I cannot await You doing Tigra (hint hint hint)... just kidding hehe =D
manny, it's cool that You're here as well, matey. CRIKEY!! =D =D
Hmm, I never quite got the Storm thing myself, but I'm not gonna diss her for obvious reasons! But I do very much like your artwork Patrick, and Storm looks great. Very swirly. Reminds me of a modern Muche or something hehe.
Well... as for any guesses... I'm not the most knowledgeable on every Marvel character ever been, but I do like X-Men... is it possible to have more than one X-Man in the collection though? If so, I would say Jean Grey as Dark Phoenix, because that's when she really rocks. *ahem*. There are so many to choose from, of which most I don't know! I jus had a little browse online, and judging by costumes, I see potential in either Aurora or Darkstar?? Never heard of 'em myself haha.
As for the essay, well, of course it was in a positive light haha!!
"A group of characters as culturally diverse as this is not often seen in comic books, especially in the super-hero genre. 'Cube' conveys a hopeful step toward a future where various social minorities are able to integrate successfully." :D
And I haven't seen the reaction to NJ yet haha but I do so love to picture their faces! (unless its a look of 'instant fail' haha)
Love,
Wabbit xx
Hooray for Ororo! I love your rendition, Patrick. I especially love her facial features and expression. There's something very Angela Bassett about it. Did you use her for reference?
Manny is right, Storm has had MANY MANY costumes and looks:

Personally, I've always liked her classic one the best (the bikini) because there's something very exotic and sexy about it. Her punk look from the 80s was cool becasue it established that she was one tough bitch. But her most popular look, the one Patrick has rendered, is I think the most indicative of her personality. It's regal and dignified and still dramatic and flashy, just like an X-Person.
Though I prefer the uniform in black, the white version is definetely the more popular one. I read somewhere that the white version came about because the 90s X-Men animated show had problems animating black.
But yeah, even though she's had many different looks, she's still always recognizable as Marvel's #1 femme fatale!
Hiya True Believers! (No this isn’t Stan Lee)! LOL!!!
Thanks so much for all the great comments on my little Storm pic! I’m glad you guys liked her!
Beebo... I’m glad you enjoyed the illustration. I fully plan on drawing her in her Punk outfit with the Mohawk verrrrrry soon! I hope you’ll keep stopping by to see that when it’s done! :o) Thanks again for stopping by!
Nigel... Thanks for the awesome guess. I grew up with Emma being a baddy... so her latest turnaround with the X-Men feels a bit weird to me. Though she’s a fantastic character in many respects, she didn’t make the Women of Marvel 6! But thanks so much for guessing! I hope you’re enjoying these femmes fatales so far! Take care! (:oD
Manny... Thanks for the sweet words, my friend. You are definitely right! What makes Storm especially striking is the contrast between her chocolate skin and her silver hair. That was a stroke of brilliance on her creator, artist Dave Cockrum’s part. And to think, Marvel warned him that they were afraid she would look like somebody’s grandmother. Bet they’re glad they allowed him to let his creative juices flow! And yup! Ever changing costumes are the norm in comics, it seems. – though every fan has his or her own fave look for their fave heroes. I think it’s what keeps things interesting! In any case, thanks again for the lovely comment! Hugz + kisses!
Cheers, dear friends!
Patrick XOXOX
Hey boys! Thanks for stopping by!
White Wabbit... I can forgive you for not “getting the Storm thing” because you always flatter me with your lovely compliments! HA! HA! HA! I’m so pleased you liked my rendition nevertheless, and that you picked up on my desire to make her nice and “wavy”! That’s really cool! Great guesses by the way... though to answer part of your question, Storm is the only member of the X-Men present in my Women of Marvel illustration. Meanwhile, I loved what you said about Cube in your essay! Thank you so much – that was awesome! Hugz + Kisses, dear friend!
JC... Thanks for the kudos, my friend. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the Storm pic. I am always so excited to know what you think of my Marvel stuff. I know you’re a huge fan yourself, so your opinion means a lot to me. I have ALWAYS dreamed that Angela Bassett would play Storm in the movies, and then they cast Halle Berry – which was okay, but certainly NO Angela. I didn’t use any direct Angela reference for this image of Storm, but I always sort of visualize her as looking a bit like that. Maybe that just came out on its own!
The classic bikini costume is also my favorite, but as I said, I just felt that I had drawn that one too much. Besides, I love her in all white like this. She looks so sophisticated and Goddess-esque! And isn’t it cool that the Cartoon inspired the comics in the end? LOL!!! Anyhow, thanks again for the great comment!
Take care, dear friends!
Patrick XOXOXO
just came across this blog. what fun! storm is my fav character of all time although her current costume (no offense to alan davis) is definitely lacking. its way to similar to her original issue...
i'd love to see your take on designing a NEW costume for her :)
and how about a "boytoons" inspired "Men of Marvel" spread? ;)
thanks,
Ru
Good Morning Rouxbot...
Welcome to AL! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the Blog so far, and it’s wonderful to hear from a fellow fan of Storm.
Yup her most current costume isn’t really my cup of tea either, despite the fact that it brought back the classic headdress. Still, of all Storm’s outfits, it’s my least favorite.
I may have to take you up on your suggestion of designing a Storm costume at some point! That could be really fun!
As for a “Men of Marvel”, I recently posted an un-official version of that on Boytoons Magazine – but plan to do an official version some time soon! The variants would most likely be the naughty versions! LOL!
Thanks again for the great comment! Drop by any time you like!
Cheers!
Patrick ;o)
